  • What you can’t do with VRAY

    Hello,
I’m interested in buying VRAY, but there is no demo for Max5, only the free version which does not do much, so I need to ask this question:

What do you have to sacrifice when you use VRAY instead of Scanline?

I notice that I can’t use “Render Elements” if I use VRAY (free) and I read that "Volume lighting" will also not work with VRAY.

What else(materials, lights, shadows, effects, etc.) works with Max Scanline but does not work with VRAY?

Thank you much for the info!

    Hi Skogzort,

The standard raytrace materials won't work in V-Ray, but it has it's own built-in material which does reflections/refractions.

Also, with V-ray, it is recomended to use it's native shadows. They work very well and can be very sharp (as ray traced shadows) or soft, according to your needs and are computed very quickly.

    Regards,

    Nenad

Volulme lighting works with VRay - check out Evermotion - they posted recently a tutorial about this.

But aren't you thinking of upgrading to 7.5 anyway? Max5 is becoming a little obsolete now and, progressively, there will be less and less plugins supporting it.
